Therapist

Reports To: Director of Program Services

Department: Program

Worksite Base: Headquarters and Shelter

Status: Contractual, 20-25 hours per week

General Purpose: To provide high quality, evidence based mental health couseling and supportive services to women and children in the Home of  the Sparrow shelter, housing and Rapid Re-Housing programs.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide trauma informed therapeutic services to individuals, children, and families in a culturally sensitive manner.
  • Provide clinical case consultations and assist in coordinating care services
  • Provide support and education to staff regarding client diagnosis, medication, trauma history ext. as needed
  • In coordination with Shelter and Housing Manager, manage issues revolving around crisis intervention/de-escalation & staff/client conflict resolution.
  • Conduct comprehensive psychosocial assessments for adults & children
  • Document all interactions
  • Meet with Director of Program Services for clinical supervision at least monthly.
  • Attend and fully participate in all staff and client team meetings.
  • Attend and fully participate in all scheduled trainings required by agency.
  • Uphold Home of the Sparrow rules, as defined in HOS’s Code of Conduct document and NASW Code of Ethics.
  • Follow emergency procedures as needed.
  • Relate positively to the community, representing HOS in a positive manner at all times.
  • Provide clinical consultation/training to Program Services staff.
  • Required to work evenings and weekends to meet the client’s needs and provide staff
  • Complete all required data reporting, file audits and tracking of client outcomes as required.
  • Enter client services into MHB billing system and achieve set billing targets.

Knowledge & Skills: Strong clinical experience working with trauma and domestic violence clients. Strong written and verbal communication skills. Strong background in mental health programs and high-barrier populations.

Physical Demands:

  • Ability to lift up to 30 pounds;
  • Balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling and reaching are required;
  • Sitting, standing and walking for extended periods of time

Qualifications:

  • Preferred Master Degree in Counseling or Social Work
  • Experience in providing therapeutic supports
  • Maintain a current clinical license through the state of Illinois if applicable
  • Preferred knowledge/experience with domestic violence, substance abuse, trauma, complex mental health, and homelessness
