We are deeply saddened to share the news of the passing of Debbie Degraw, a pivotal member of our Home of the Sparrow family for over a decade. Debbie joined Home of the Sparrow in 2010 and was an invaluable part of our team as the Vice President of Marketing/PR and Development.

Debbie accomplished many significant milestones during her time at Home of the Sparrow, including raising funds to secure a permanent headquarters location for the agency, obtaining the first round of funding from the McHenry County Mental Health Board, and developing Home of the Sparrow’s first website. Debbie was instrumental in acquiring Home of the Sparrow’s first donor-tracking software, filling a significant gap in the agency. She also played a crucial role in securing many invaluable donors and grants over the years, which helped grow the programs and services.

Her drive, dedication to our mission, and unwavering kindness touched everyone who had the privilege of knowing her. Debbie was not only a talented professional but also a wonderful person who cared about others so deeply. Our thoughts and heartfelt condolences go out to Debbie’s family and friends during this difficult time. She will be greatly missed.

To honor Debbie’s legacy, we are unveiling the Debbie Degraw Training Center Wing at our new headquarters building in Woodstock. This space will support hundreds of our clients each year which we know Debbie would have loved. Rest in peace, Debbie. Home of the Sparrow is forever grateful for you.
