Donations Urgently Needed!

Community Threads in Arlington Heights, IL, needs your gently-used clothing, shoes & home goods donations.

(3/20/24, Arlington Heights, IL) Community Threads, a Home of the Sparrow Resale Store, is in great need of gently-used donations at their thrift store in Arlington Heights, IL. Donations are accepted Monday through Saturday from 10 am to 4:30 pm at the “Donation Drop Off Center” located behind the building. The items donated to Community Threads are sold with proceeds going towards supporting Home of the Sparrow’s programs and their mission: “To reduce the prevalence of homelessness among women, children, families, and individuals through creative strategies and community partnerships that result in lasting self-sufficiency.”

Items that ARE commonly accepted for donation include women’s, men’s, and children’s clothing (Infant through adult), shoes (Infant through adult), accessories (Including jewelry, purses, watches, ties, hats, gloves, scarves), housewares, small home appliances, electronics (In working condition), decorations, Artwork, Frames, Mirrors and Lamps, linens and pillows, electronics (TVs only up to 5 years old), books, DVDs, and CDs, games, toys and collectibles, and gently used furniture.

Items that ARE NOT accepted for donation include, but are not limited to, any upholstery that has tears, stains, holes, fading, broken pieces or missing parts, water damage, smoke damage, mold, wood furniture items that are showing signs of warping, are cracked, broken, have significant scratches, peeling paint, beds, bed frames, box springs, sleeper sofas (with pull-out beds), waterbeds, mattresses, exercise equipment, entertainment centers, china cabinets, child car seats or cribs, any type of computer equipment (computers, laptops, printers, monitors, fax machines), TV’s more than 5 years old, lawn and garden equipment (lawn mowers, trimmers, snow blowers) and outdoor grills, hazardous chemicals/materials and paint, encyclopedias and textbooks, and any kind of cable boxes/converters. Home of the Sparrow provides a Transitional Shelter, Housing Programs, Rental Assistance, Outreach, and Case Management services to women, children, and individuals experiencing homelessness. Home of the Sparrow also operates seven resale stores in Northern Illinois. Revenue from the stores goes back into supporting Home of the Sparrow’s mission to reduce the prevalence of homelessness among women, children, families, and individuals through creative strategies and community partnerships that result in lasting self-sufficiency.
