Position Overview
The Overnight Shelter Staff supports residents in a transitional shelter environment by providing client-centered consultation, case management support, and community resources while helping maintain a safe, clean, and supportive shelter environment.
Key Responsibilities
-Meet monthly with the Shelter Manager for supervision.
-Uphold Home of the Sparrow rules outlined in the Shelter Rules and Philosophy document.
– Follow emergency procedures when necessary.
-Represent Home of the Sparrow positively in the community.
– Assist with preparing rooms, binders, and materials for resident move-ins and move-outs.
– Attend and participate in required agency trainings.
– Follow and support clients’ Individual Plans.
– Provide case management support, client-centered consultation, and community support services.
– Advocate for clients as needed.
– Document and bill client interventions accurately in client charts.
– Enter and maintain shelter client information in the HMIS database system.
– Conduct chart audits for shelter clients.
– Provide transportation for clients related to their Individual Plans.
– Complete weekly shelter duties assigned by the Shelter Manager.
– Conduct weekly safety and maintenance inspections.
– Count petty cash each shift.
– Help maintain a clean, safe, and well-maintained shelter environment.
Qualifications
– Bachelor’s degree in Social Work or a related field preferred.
– 1–2 years of experience working with high-barrier individuals.
– Previous experience working with high-barrier populations preferred.
Knowledge & Skills
– Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
– Ability to work effectively with diverse populations.
– Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team.
Physical Requirements
– Ability to lift up to 30 pounds.
– Ability to balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, and reach.
– Ability to sit, stand, and walk for extended periods.
